Itinerary
Departure time is between 08:00 and 08:30 from any location in Windhoek. Windhoek is
surrounded by mountains, and your journey begins with a drive through them, first through the
Eros Mountains and then through the Khomas Hochland Range. As you pass through the
mountains, the central plateau gives way to grassy desert savannah. There will be a brief stop
in the quirky town of Solitaire for gas and possibly afternoon tea. The goal is to arrive at the
campsite in the late afternoon so that there will be time to relax and explore the surroundings
before sunset, when the colors glow and change on the distant mountains to the east at the Elim
dune. Dinner will be served around campfire.
We get an early start in order to catch the soft light of the sunrise over the desert. Continue
along the road towards Sossusvlei, passing by distant sand dunes on both sides. You will come
to a halt at Dune 45, where those who are physically fit can climb the dune for a breathtaking
view of the surrounding desert. After breakfast, go for a desert walk in the cool morning air,
where you might see gemsboks, springboks, black-backed jackals, and ostriches. You'll return
to the campsite around lunchtime. Before sunset, as the day cools down in the afternoon, there
will be a short excursion to Sesriem Canyon.
The tour will have a leisurely start to the day as it returns to Windhoek for an overnight stop
on the way to Etosha National Park. Tonight's dinner will be on your own dime. We
recommend paying a visit to Joe's Beerhouse. Speak with your tour guide because reservations
are required.
You will be picked up from your hotel between 08:00 and 08:30 to travel to Namibia's most
famous National Park. On the way, you'll stop in Otjiwarongo to refuel and stock up on
supplies. We'll stop for a picnic lunch along the way before arriving in Okaukuejo and setting
up camp in the afternoon. Before a late afternoon game drive, there will be time to explore the
surroundings and enjoy the swimming pool. After dinner around the campfire, a visit to the
floodlit waterhole is highly recommended because rhinos and lions are known to drink there.
It's a thrilling full day out, crisscrossing Etosha in search of wildlife, including the Big 4. You'll
see a number of waterholes and stop at the Etosha Pan, which gave the park its name. The Pan
is a 5,000-square-kilometer-wide flat depression. This vast white expanse is a place of
shimmering mirages, and seeing large herds of game in this setting makes Etosha a one-of-akind African experience. Before continuing the game drive to Namutoni, there will be a lunch
stop at Halali middle camp. Namutoni is a historic fort built by the Germans during the colonial
period. There will be time to unwind at the Namutoni swimming pool or elsewhere.
After breakfast, the journey to Windhoek takes a different path. The tour will return to
Windhoek in the late afternoon or early evening, and you will be dropped off at your hotel.
