There is no more incredible wildlife experience than tracking an endangered Mountain Gorilla
in its natural habitat. This Rwanda tour allows visitors to track the gorillas twice, which makes
for a more rewarding experience. The tour also includes a search for the elusive Golden
Monkey.
Your guide will pick you up from your Kigali hotel or the Kigali Airport and take you on a
guided tour of the city. The tour will be tailored to your interests and may include visits to
Rwandan art centers that help develop young artists, local markets, one of the Genocide
Memorial Museums, and/or other noteworthy monuments and government buildings located
throughout the city. You will learn about Rwanda's history and see how impressive the
Rwandan people are in their ability to recover after the Genocides. Rwanda is now one of
Africa's cleanest cities, and it is amazing growth. After lunch (on your own), we will drive
through Rwanda's winding hills to Volcanoes National Park. The Lodge is situated between
Musanze and the park, with spectacular views of the 5 volcanoes that run along the park's edge.
We get up early for breakfast and pack our belongings before heading to the ranger station. The
rangers will choose the family you will be tracking based on your requests, the distance of the
family, and your fitness level when you arrive. We begin with a briefing with our lead ranger,
who will go over the rules and provide information on the family members you will be meeting.
Then we head into the dense forest on a hike that can be relatively easy or very difficult
depending on where the gorilla family is located. Before we meet the family, the journey can
last anywhere from 30 minutes to 5 hours. You will have up to an hour to enjoy this magical
encounter with the gorillas. The children are frequently playful and can even be a little curious,
approaching visitors quite close. We then hike back to the vehicle or ranger station, stopping
in the forest to eat a packed lunch if the trek has been long.
We begin again at dawn, this time to prepare for another encounter with the magnificent
Mountain Gorilla. You'll now have a better idea of what to expect and can talk to your guide
and rangers about which Family members would be a good fit for this trek. The main advantage
of second gorilla tracking is that you can relax and enjoy the experience. You should have a
few good photos from the first tracking. So you can now put the camera away and enjoy the
time you have with your family. We'll have to say our goodbyes after another hour of close
contact. We hike back out of the forest to our vehicle, which is waiting for us, and then return
back to the lodge
After breakfast, we will return to the ranger station for a briefing before venturing into the
forest in search of the elusive Golden Monkey. These Golden Monkeys have become
accustomed to human presence, allowing you to observe their natural interactions in the wild.
After spending an hour with the monkeys, we return to the hotel for a shower and lunch before
driving back to Kigali. End of tour escorting to the airport.
